Don’t let them discourage you from making the choice to utilize them for your student. Remember YOUR student Funds their School that’s why the don’t inform you of your options.

Phoenix Program is one option for an Independent Study Program with a Teacher assigned to your student. Only attends school one day a week and complete packet of paperwork and take test to finalize grades. Excellent program. Avoid TEACHER & ADMINISTRATION campus drama. Your grade is Your grade…no one to interfere with the grade you deserve. Do the work, take the test and get the grade to reflect your hard work and knowledge! My son went from Teacher given D’s & F’s to A’s & B’s. No nonsense and drama.

NOTE TO PARENTS – don’t feel like your student is stuck in the normal Public School System environment. There are many options for your student that the Administrators refuse to tell you about. You are in control of where and how your student receives education. Research your Local Programs for your school district and utilize your Educational options as a Parent to find the best environment for your child. Don’t allow the normal High School campus environment become a prison to your student. This setting may or may not be the best environment for your student to succeed and feel valued as a person. KNOW your choices.

Every student is different, unique, and able to succeed with Teachers that care and programs that fit their learning styles. Each young adult has a specific learning style and a unique attitude about education and authority. For most students, they can fit into the normal system and depending on how motivated they are they succeed with average to above average grades.

Now for the student that isn’t as motivated but capable, a little slower paced, shorter attention span, or just a plain social person over scholastic interests–can find themselves being labeled a behavioral problem. Does that really mean your student has a behavior problem? NO… just different learning styles that aren’t available in the normal robot setting.

Here’s my story:
My oldest son is more book smart and made it through the school system with decent grades, participated in the sports programs, achieved awards, made a few close friends, started working at age 16, learned to save money and budget, graduated and decided to go on to College, etc.

Now my youngest son is more of a social bug. Found himself frustrated with the tons of homework to be completed in the classroom and the hours of homework after school with no time to enjoy church events or school sports. It became difficult to maintain grades enough to even participate in the sports programs, which caused his self-esteem to drop so low that he began not even caring because it felt hopeless to attain. So we found him now becoming a behavior problem to teachers because he couldn’t keep up and they didn’t want to be bothered with his learning style.
Once labeled a behavior problem, teachers began treating him as a worthless student and not worth the time of day to help him succeed. So referrals for petty things started coming in, teachers pulled the 3 referrals you are kicked from the class trick to get him out of their class to not reflect on how they teach. I found that the truly good teachers Luke got a long with and succeed, but the teachers that aren’t there for the students success just found ways to tear down his self esteem and pushed triggers that any normal person would end up responding to. After we experienced three teachers that pulled this 3 referral nonsense and failed him from their classes with no opportunity for even us as parents to help him improve in their class or even trying to help him create a plan to succeed, we chose to find out what other options were available for Luke’s success.

We discovered the Phoenix Program. This is an Independent Study program. Your student has a Teacher assigned to them. This teacher will pull your transcript and explain to you what requirements you need for graduation and help develop a plan to meet those requirements. This teacher is there for your student with any questions. They will teach your student if they need help. You meet once a week, turn in and receive packets of weekly work assignments and take appropriate tests for grades. Even though the School Administration will poopoo this option they can’t stop you from insisting this form of education. Start with the Counselor and ask about the Phoenix Program. Get a contact phone number for the Phoenix Program Office and ask all your questions and get help if the school won’t help you proceed with this option. As a Parent, You have the Right To Education. The school cannot deter your request. Just go to the Phoenix Program Office located at Chaparral High School and speak to the Debra Powell. She will help you immediately. Again if this sounds like a fitting educational plan for your student to succeed. My son went from Teacher given grades affected by behavior of D’s & F’s to the A’s & B’s he deserves. This not only improved Luke’s self esteem to see he’s not the idiot the teachers from mainstream school were trying to make him feel like. He became confident in his study skills and can do the work necessary to achieve the appropriate grade. Thank God for the Phoenix Program. Luke is now working a job full-time, successfully completing other programs alongside of working towards graduating for his senior year.

Another tip for this program is get to know the Teacher that you choose for your son. They all have different styles. Some teachers don’t allow the student to use notes for the tests and some do. Some teachers are stricter than others. Find the one that your student needs to succeed. Luke has been blessed to have a teacher from another school other than his home school, which has helped him see the hope and benefit in graduating with a diploma. This teacher has helped him to not feel defeated, but recognize he is capable of achieving his goal. He truly cares about my sons success and my son responds to that well. I thank the Lord for this teacher daily.

Their website is very informative about all their individual programs and treatments.

Michael’s House introduces the 12-step principles, has daily group and individual therapy, also life skills classes. Their Residential program offers delicious and nutritious food, an exercise weight room, meditation and quiet time, daily recreational opportunities, and other healthful and fun activities.

Just realizing and accepting the fact that addictions are real and you may have one is the first step to getting any help at all. Denial is the biggest roadblock that gets in people’s way from accepting the truth about an addiction. Just being open enough to hear or read through some addiction information may seem difficult to some people.

If you’re serious about finding the appropriate rehab facility for yourself or loved ones, be sure to investigate until you are comfortable with what is being provided.

I may have mentioned this website in the past, but I’ve recently been using this site and remember how simplified it has made my life. It brings together all your favorite search sites like yellowpages, city search, yelp, superages all into a 1-stop place. Local.com.

Quick access to my favorite local restaurants. No matter where I’m at in the US; Local.com helps me find exactly what I’m looking for. Especially when I’m in Phoenix. I sometimes travel with my husband for his business and I’ll locate our favorite eateries, grocery stores, pet kennels, etc. near our timeshare. Amazing how places are so close to where we stay, but how would I have known without this help? Use the local yellowpages or the timeshare’s local search directory only favoring their partnered businesses…yeah right. Local.com is a much better choice.

Try it out and see for yourself.

Their website is designed to be calming and peaceful as you search through all the information, just like their facilities. Orchid Recovery Center has been designed just for the specific needs of women facing addiction and unresolved traumas within their lives. Their program addresses the unique and specific needs of alcohol or drug dependent women in an environment that encourages healing and restoration of a woman’s body, mind and spirit. It’s a unique place that gives an opportunity for women to break the cycle of addiction and enjoy healthy, contented, serene and productive lives.

Out of curiosity, I’ve been researching a few drug addiction treatment programs lately and want to share a few of them with you over a few posts this week. Why is it most people only discover these places at the point of desperation or hopelessness? Then end up in a place that doesn’t really meet you or your loved one’s needs. It’s because this problem doesn’t affect us personally, but when it does you scramble to find out as much information, research study news, or resources of any kind as you can find and then make quick rash decisions.

Well, some information has come my way and I’m curious about what they have to offer. There are so many pros and cons for participating in drug addiction help programs. So weighing out all the facts before selecting the right place is critical. How the staff responds to you when inquiring about the services is a huge clue towards what to expect from a facility in the future. Their attitudes and actions won’t change much once you or a loved one is a participant. Be sure to tour the facility and look over the environment and procedures. Best of all know…what its about and feel comfortable before jumping in.

One place I’ve discovered here in California is The Canyon. Their website is beautifully layed out and full of information you want to know. They offer online chat options, contact by email and are located at 2900 S. Kanan Dume Rd., Malibu CA.

I personally tried to contact them through the instant chat, but that didn’t work out. I was disconnected once I submit my question. So I submitted their form with my inquiry and am still waiting on information. This is sometimes normal, these places are busy and it may take some time to get placed once an opening is available. I won’t know until I call their number and see what kind of response I get. So do your homework too.

The Canyon seems to offer a lot of addiction treatment programs and real whole person drug addiction support and help.

A few of the multiple drug detox treatments are for marijuana, cocaine, crystal-meth, opiates, prescription drugs, and alcohol treatment.

The facility according to the virtual tour on their website shows peaceful, luxurious, accommodations for the program participants. So if this is of interest check them out.

Well, your marriage can change and work for the better with the Lord in the center. Click here to see the trailer and read a brief summary of what the movie is about.

Try the Love Dare! It challenges you to do specific things each day and journal about it and the affect on yourself and your spouse. You can pickup the movie, love dare journals, and other study resources at your local Family Christian Store for individual couple use or to facilitate a couples study group.

The Love Dare can help you evaluate your motives and intentions in your marriage. It will guide you to and through verses in the Bible about what God says our roles are in marriage. Discusses how Respect to a man is real Love, but to a woman Love means caring, listening, and being kind. Men and Women are different and God made us that way on purpose….learning the differences and honoring those differences as the Lord desires us to is what builds your marriage up.

This is the first couples study that Russ has personally took an interest in, searched out, and pursued for us to do together. I’m excited to see where the Lord leads our marriage. Thanks mom and dad for sharing the movie with us and planting the seeds.

Here we, Russ and I, are the victims of our sons choices and we are penalized to participate in some Family and Individual counseling and Parenting classes. Luke also has to do counseling and take an Anger/Assault class as well.

I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and that the Lord has a plan for good to come from this. So I find myself trying to see where the Lord’s hand is within this crazy up and down situation we’re facing.

Not knowing what counseling to turn to and seeking help from Christian resources, our Youth Pastor, Brian Berry referred us to Family Focus Christian Counseling as a place to start. Counseling hasn’t been a success story for Russ and I in the past, but I’m hoping this will become a positive thing at this time in our lives.

Family Focus Christian Counseling has been a huge resource for us. They not only work with families and individuals for a regular fee, but they do offer a sliding scale option if your income is the only issue in the way of getting help you need. I have to thank the Lord for helping us discover this place and I recommend anyone needing these services to call them up and see what they can do to help your unique situation.

The only thing I personally can’t stand about counseling is that it forces you to face the harsh reality of who you may be, who your spouse my be, and your dysfunctions that need to be worked on. I just hope hashing out the problems don’t make things worse at home.
